Several Vancouver agencies will accept a clear, recent photo for a first submission, as long as it is a true likeness with your child looking straight at the camera. What changes is representation. Once an agency signs your child, a current headshot becomes part of the working kit.
Kids change fast. A headshot that was accurate in the spring can be wrong by the fall.
If your agency has its own specifications, send them to me before the session and I will shoot to them.
Process
Enquire
Tell me your child's age, whether this is for an agency submission or an update, and any deadline you are working to.
Plan
We go over wardrobe and what your agency has asked for. If you have specifications from them, this is when to send them.
Shoot
Thirty to sixty minutes depending on the package. Kids set the pace, and if your child needs to stop and reset, we stop and reset.
Deliver
Retouched images arrive within 5 business days, formatted and ready to submit. Rush delivery may be available if you ask.

No two sessions run the same
A three-year-old and a twelve-year-old need almost nothing in common from me, so I do not run a fixed sequence.
Toddlers do better in a play-based setup with no pressure to perform. Older kids respond to direct expression coaching, and usually enjoy it. I read which one I am working with on the day.

Solid colours work best. Anything with a lot going on pulls attention away from the face.
Bright, comfortable clothes that suit your child's age. I send a detailed guide after booking, and for the Portfolio package we plan the three looks together.

Kids have off days. If your child isn't settling in, we stop and rebook at no additional cost.
A child who is being pushed shows it in every frame, and retouching does not fix that afterwards. It is cheaper for both of us to come back another day.
